Digital Public Library of America

The librarians at Golisano Library wanted to share with you a wonderful resource called the Digital Public Library of America (http://dp.la/ ). It is a consortium of digital collections including books, images, historic records, and audiovisual material from libraries, museums, universities, and colleges around the world. The Library of Congress, HathiTrust, and the Internet Archive have worked together to create the DPLA in order to provide a main point of open access for these invaluable collections. There is no fee required to view the multitude of materials available through the DPLA website.

Although this is an open access database, not all of the pictures are available to use as you want. Many times if you click on a picture, there will be a section that says “Rights” and it will tell you how to contact someone if the image is protected by copyright and you want to use it. If it says “unrestricted” then you can use the picture without violating copyright.

Feel free to check out the website from the link above and explore the collections and how they might be beneficial to you.  If you have questions, contact the Golisano Research Assistance Desk, x6499.
