Honoring Al Krober

Congratulations to Alfred C. Krober, who is retiring after 44 years of faithful service to Roberts Wesleyan College. Al served as Director of Library Services from 1971 until 2014 and has been working this past year as Special Projects Librarian. He succeeded Ora A. Sprague, an icon as Head Librarian on our campus from the 1930’s into the 1970’s, and he has followed in her heritage of leadership of our library.

Under Al’s leadership, the library evolved from a 50,000 volume library with a physical card catalog to electronic on-line resources with web-based research available at our fingertips, in addition to expanding our print collection to over 130,000 volumes.

Most notably during Al’s tenure, he led the planning and design of the new B. Thomas Golisano Library that we enjoy today. His contributions made our new library a reality and it continues to be a focal point on our campus.

Al’s insights, writing skills, sense of humor and gift of willing service have been invaluable contributions to the Library team. We thank him for the solid foundation he has left for us and wish him well, good health and continued blessings during his retirement years.
