Engaging with the ACRL Framework Conference

On Wednesday, March 9th, Erin Bennett, Information Services Librarian and Kellie Barbato, Outreach Librarian, traveled to Albany to attend the Engaging with the ACRL Framework one-day conference at the University of Albany which took place on March 10th. Previously, in February 2015, the Association of College and Research Libraries released the new "Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education," which Golisano Library is eager to implement, with the cooperation of the teaching faculty. The goal of the conference was for academic librarians from all over the country to share the ways they are currently implementing the framework. The keynote speech was given by Trudi Jacobson, Head of the Information Literacy Department at the University at Albany, who served on the committee which developed the framework. After the keynote, Erin and Kellie were able to view posters from librarians all over the country showing how they are currently implementing the framework at their institutions. Following lunch, there was a panel of teaching faculty from UAlbany who discussed how to advocate for the framework (and information literacy in general) and a "fishbowl," which was an open discussion of all of the topics brought up during the day. Erin and Kellie brought back many ideas for Golisano Library!
