Matthew Davis Attends Workshop on Scholarly Communication

Matthew Davis, Interim Systems Librarian, recently had the opportunity to participate in a workshop on Scholarly Communication. He was awarded a scholarship through the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) and traveled to Chicago, IL for the event, which was jointly hosted by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and ATLA. Matt’s reflections:

“It was important for me to step out beyond our community here at Roberts and Northeastern to listen and learn from other institutions. There is so much going on with copyright and open and affordable education. Librarians are right there in the middle. Information professionals are strong advocates for Open Access publishing and Open (and affordable) Educational Resources. This workshop forced me to deal with the challenges at other institutions (and the publishing industry) and allowed me the space to have a sounding-board in my peers. I came back empowered and excited to implement initiatives that will engage our campus community, both in-person and  online.”

If you’d like to chat with Matt about some of the initiatives he hopes to implement, please email or call him (594-6064).
