Rooted in Faith and Grounded in Truth

From June 10-14, our Access Services Librarian, Meredith Ader, attended the Association of Christian Librarians’ (ACL) annual conference (Rooted in Faith and Grounded in Truth) hosted this year by the Lewis A. Jackson Library on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. In addition to poster sessions, liberal arts discussions, worship and devotions, and the keynote speech (“For Or Unto Me?: Explorations of the Formative Potential of Libraries”), workshops attended included:

  • Technical Services Workflows with Less Staff
  • Accountability for Student Employees: Balancing Real World with Grace
  • Serving in Love: Hospitality in the Academic Library
  • Library Learning Spaces
  • The Role of the Academic Library in Supporting an OER/Affordable Course Content Initiative
  • A Three-Year Journey: Raising the Library’s Profile on Campus
  • Indexing

The 2019 ACL conference offered an encouraging time, gaining insight from experienced veterans with decades of collective wisdom, mid-career professionals in the thick of their work, and newbies with some of the most redefining ideas. ACL conferences offer more than a networking opportunity, however. Its unique Christian identity allows for a kindling of deep, new friendships and a focus on Christ-centered service that is inherent to our field. Meredith is so thankful for the time spent at ACL and the year-round support received from the organization. She is looking forward to next year’s conference at Newman University in Wichita, KS.
